The situation regarding dengue fever in Bangladesh has taken a concerning turn, with one more death and 329 new cases reported within a 24-hour period as of Sunday morning. This latest update brings the total number of fatalities to 32 and confirmed cases to 7,758 for the year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The recently reported death occurred in the Dhaka South City Corporation area. Among the new cases, Barishal Division saw the highest increase with 136 new instances, followed by Chattogram Division with 64 cases and Dhaka Division with 38 cases. The Dhaka South City Corporation recorded 43 new cases, while Dhaka North City Corporation had 21. Other regions also reported cases, including Khulna Division with 15, Rajshahi Division with 10, and Mymensingh Division with two.
Currently, the country is managing 909 dengue patients who are undergoing treatment in hospitals. It’s worth noting that last year, dengue fever had a significant impact on public health, resulting in 575 fatalities and a total of 101,214 cases across the nation, with 100,040 recoveries.
The ongoing rise in dengue cases underscores the need for increased awareness and preventive measures to control mosquito populations and reduce the spread of this disease. Communities and health authorities are encouraged to take action to mitigate the outbreak as the country navigates through this challenging period.
