A new police post has been inaugurated in Denarau, Nadi, aimed at enhancing security and deterring crime in this vital tourism destination. The facility, funded by the Denarau Corporation Ltd, is intended to bolster police operations and improve safety for tourists, residents, and business owners on the island.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu highlighted that the establishment of the new post will increase police visibility and fortify the Tourism Police Unit, especially in areas frequented by visitors. “With tourism being one of the country’s leading revenue earners, our focus is to strengthen our tourism policing capabilities to support the safety and security of visitors,” he stated.

In his remarks, Commissioner Tudravu expressed gratitude towards Denarau Corporation Ltd, its management, and local hoteliers for their collaboration, noting that discussions about enhancing police presence on the island have been ongoing.

Nesbitt Hazelman, general manager of Denarau Corporation Ltd, emphasized the necessity of a police presence due to Denarau’s significant economic role. “Denarau is a key driver of the tourism industry and contributes significantly to the Fijian economy,” he remarked.

The corporation views the police post as an essential deterrent against crime, providing assurance to investors, residents, and tourists alike. “We have many investors and residents who have made significant investments on the island, and it is important they feel safe and have access to police assistance when needed,” Hazelman added.

He also noted that the police have been equipped with the necessary tools and facilities for effective operations on the island, indicating that a robust police presence will help hoteliers, businesses, and residents maintain a safe and welcoming environment. This development reflects a positive commitment to enhancing security in one of Fiji’s most important tourist hubs, ensuring the well-being of all who visit or reside in Denarau.
