Following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he will not run for re-election, Democrats have successfully raised $100 million through their primary fundraising platform in just two days.
The political action committee ActBlue, which supports Democratic initiatives, reported this amount via a tracker managed by developer Ryan Murphy of The Marshall Project. While these figures are not yet official, they provide early insights into fundraising activities before future disclosures are made.
On Sunday alone, a remarkable $66.9 million was raised in support of Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, marking the highest single-day fundraising total for the 2024 election cycle on ActBlue. The previous record for donations occurred on September 30, 2020, coinciding with the first debate between Biden and Trump, as noted by Murphy’s tracker.
As a result of this recent influx, ActBlue has now surpassed $14 billion in total funds raised since its inception two decades ago. In contrast, WinRed, the Republican fundraising platform established in late 2019, has collected approximately $4.3 billion, according to OpenSecrets data.
ActBlue celebrated the surge in donations, announcing on X (formerly Twitter) that they had received many first-time contributions, reflecting a growing grassroots movement.
In related news, Future Forward, a super PAC aligned with Biden, garnered $150 million in new commitments from major donors within 24 hours of Biden’s announcement and his subsequent endorsement of Harris. Additionally, the organization Swing Left, which aims to support the Democratic nominee, reported raising over $160,000 within the same timeframe.
Roger Altman, founder of Evercore, expressed confidence in Harris’s campaign’s financial backing, and influential Democratic donors such as George and Alex Soros provided their support as well.
Previously, Biden’s fundraising peaked after losses to Trump during a televised debate in June, bringing in about $28 million between June 27 and June 28. Following Trump’s felony conviction on 34 counts, Biden raised $19.2 million, while Trump and his affiliated groups generated $69 million from May 30 to May 31, causing a brief crash of Trump’s campaign website. Additionally, the super PAC Make America Great Again Inc. raised $70 million that month.
From April to June, Biden’s supporting groups raised $332.4 million, whereas pro-Trump groups collected $431.2 million. By the close of June, Biden’s funds totaled $281 million compared to Trump’s $336.2 million.
