Democrats Hit the Ground Running: $100 Million Raised in 48 Hours!

Shortly after President Joe Biden announced he would not pursue re-election, Democrats successfully raised $100 million through their primary fundraising platform.

ActBlue, a political action committee that supports Democratic organizations, reported this amount over just two days, based on a live tracker managed by Ryan Murphy, a developer at The Marshall Project. While this figure is not officially confirmed, it highlights the fundraising capabilities of ActBlue ahead of upcoming disclosure requirements.

On Sunday alone, donors contributed a notable $66.9 million for Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign launch, marking the most successful single day of fundraising for the 2024 election cycle for ActBlue. This surpassed the previous second-best day, which occurred during the first presidential debate between Biden and Trump in September 2020.

With this recent influx of funds, ActBlue has now raised a total of $14 billion since its inception two decades ago. In comparison, its Republican counterpart, WinRed, which began operations in late 2019, has raised approximately $4.3 billion.

ActBlue expressed enthusiasm about the surge in donations, noting that many donors had made their first-ever contributions in the past 24 hours, which they described as motivating for the grassroots movement.

Additionally, Future Forward, a super PAC aligned with Biden, secured $150 million in new commitments from key donors shortly after Biden’s announcement and endorsement of Harris. Swing Left, a fund supporting the Democratic nominee, reported raising over $160,000 within the same timeframe.

Roger Altman, founder of Evercore, stated that Harris’s campaign is expected to be well-funded and expressed his support for her. Prominent Democratic donors George and Alex Soros have also endorsed Harris.

Previously, Biden experienced significant fundraising boosts after a debate loss to Trump and following Trump’s felony convictions, raising millions during those times. Overall, pro-Biden groups raised $332.4 million from April to June, while pro-Trump groups garnered $431.2 million. By the end of June, Biden had $281 million available compared to Trump’s $336.2 million.
