“Democratic Freedom Fight Takes Center Stage at DNC”

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro addressed the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Wednesday, emphasizing that Democrats represent “the party of real freedom.” He reflected on the historical significance of Philadelphia, where patriots declared independence 250 years ago and set the country on a path of self-determination.

Shapiro criticized former President Donald Trump, describing him as “a man with no guardrails.” He argued that Trump’s claims of offering freedom are misleading, stating, “it’s not freedom to tell our children what books they’re allowed to read,” and “it’s not freedom to tell women what they can do with their bodies.” He also pointed out the irony in allowing citizens to vote while controlling the outcome.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is set to deliver the keynote address as he officially accepts the Democratic vice presidential nomination. Other notable speakers at the convention include former President Bill Clinton, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

The theme for Day 3 of the DNC focuses on “A Fight for Our Freedoms,” highlighting Vice President Kamala Harris’s commitment to protecting Americans’ liberties and framing Trump as a threat to freedom. Harris will accept the Democratic nomination on Thursday night, the final day of the convention.

Shapiro was considered a strong candidate for Harris’s running mate before she chose Walz. Following the announcement, he expressed support for Walz, calling him “a strong addition to the ticket.” At their first joint campaign event at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Walz praised Shapiro, stating, “Pennsylvania, I know you know this, but my God, what a treasure you have in Josh Shapiro.” Shapiro also expressed his dedication to the state, saying, “I love being your governor.”
