President Volodymyr Zelensky has indicated that the most recent draft of a peace plan aimed at resolving the ongoing war with Russia proposes the establishment of demilitarized zones in eastern Ukraine. This updated 20-point plan, which has been discussed and agreed upon by Ukrainian and U.S. officials, has been forwarded to Moscow for consideration.

Key elements of the proposed plan include a freeze on combat along current front lines, provisions for Ukraine to conduct elections, and the assurance that Ukraine can continue its ambitions to join NATO. Zelensky expressed optimism, stating he anticipates a response from Russia by Wednesday evening.

According to Zelensky, the agreement recognizes the current line of troop deployment in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions as the de facto line of contact. He further noted that a working group will be established to discuss the necessary redeployment of forces to facilitate the end of hostilities, as well as to outline the parameters for potential future special economic zones.

The proposed plan signifies a potentially significant step toward resolving the conflict and creating a path for stability in the region. As dialogue continues, there remains hope for a peaceful resolution that could pave the way for reconstruction and healing for the affected communities in Ukraine.
