The legal battle over the estate of the late businessman Sunjay Kapur has escalated as his children, Kiaan Raj Kapoor and Samara Kapoor, questioned the validity of their father’s will in the Delhi High Court. Represented by senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, the two children alleged their stepmother, Priya Sachdev, engaged in irregular practices concerning the will, which they claim is riddled with inaccuracies.
Kiaan and Samara filed their case claiming that the will included misspellings of their names and incorrect details about their addresses, which Jethmalani argued were significant errors for someone known to have a close relationship with his children. He stated, “It is unlikely that Sunjay Kapur would have made such mistakes regarding the names and addresses of his own children. This raises serious doubts about the authenticity of the will.”
Their claims also suggested that the will unfairly benefits only Priya Sachdev, with no other individuals mentioned as recipients of Sunjay’s assets. Jethmalani emphasized that if the will turns out to be a forgery, Priya would be the only person who could have had the motive to create a document of this nature. The court proceedings are set to continue on Tuesday.
This is not the first instance of tension regarding the inheritance. Earlier, on October 9, Kiaan and Samara likened their stepmother to “Cinderella’s evil stepmother,” highlighting their feelings of being unjustly treated in matters of inheritance.
The legal process comes after Priya Sachdev was given leave by the court on September 26 to submit an inventory of Sunjay Kapur’s assets in a sealed cover, with instructions to keep sensitive estate information away from the media.
Sunjay Kapur passed away in June 2025 in London, reportedly due to a heart attack, leaving behind a complex legacy that now faces scrutiny during these proceedings. He was previously married to actress Karisma Kapoor, with whom he shares two children, Samara and Kiaan. In 2017, he married Priya Sachdev.
