James Gunn, director of Superman and co-CEO of DC Studios, has provided some updates regarding various upcoming projects in the DC universe during his return to Threads. Although The Brave and the Bold and Batman have been frequently cited as high priorities for DC Studios after the release of Superman, Gunn confirmed that he and Peter Safran have yet to find an actor for the next Batman role. This indicates a low likelihood of a Batman cameo in the upcoming Clayface film, which will also take place within the DC universe.
Gunn addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding Hush being the primary antagonist in Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II. While he didn’t categorically dismiss the character’s inclusion, he advised fans to be cautious about believing every rumor circulating online. Thomas Elliot, known as Hush, could indeed serve as an intriguing villain for Reeves’ sequel.
Shifting gears, Gunn mentioned that Ana Nogueira, initially brought on to write a Teen Titans movie, has redirected her efforts toward a Wonder Woman reboot, further emphasizing that Wonder Woman is another priority for the studio. Discussions about which characters will lead the Teen Titans continue, particularly which version of Robin, including Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, and Damian Wayne, will take center stage. Gunn informed fans that while updates on The Brave and the Bold may not be forthcoming, work on the script is actively ongoing.
Regarding the potential crossover of Robert Pattinson’s Batman into the DCU, Gunn acknowledged that it’s a topic of consideration, although he indicated that it’s not highly probable. The focus remains on fostering the new narrative with David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman.
As anticipation builds, The Batman Part II is slated for release on October 1, 2027, which allows time for more developments and announcements in the DC universe. Gunn’s transparency about the creative processes and emerging ideas will keep fans engaged as the studio navigates through its next phase of storytelling.
