DC Studios Unveils Tom Rhys Harries as Clayface: Exciting New Chapter Ahead!

Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries has been cast in the title role of the upcoming film “Clayface” from DC Studios, as reported by TheWrap. The movie, which showcases one of Batman’s most intriguing adversaries, will be directed by James Watkins, known for his work on the remake of the Danish thriller “Speak No Evil.” The screenplay has undergone revisions, with Hossein Amini, acclaimed for his work on “Drive,” penning the latest draft, while Mike Flanagan contributed to an earlier version.

Production for “Clayface” is set to kick off this fall, with Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris serving as producers. The character of Clayface, originally introduced in DC Comics as Basil Karlo—a horror film actor driven mad—has the incredible ability to shape-shift into various forms, a feature that will be highlighted in the new adaptation, particularly focusing on the Matt Hagen version.

Clayface has made recent appearances in the animated series “Batman: The Caped Crusader” and is expected to appear in a multi-episode arc of the upcoming “Creature Commandos” cartoon on Max. Previously, the character also featured prominently in the beloved 1990s series “Batman: The Animated Series.” While there were speculations about his inclusion in “The Batman: Part 2,” these were dismissed by DC Studios co-chief James Gunn on social media.

Tom Rhys Harries’s recent credits include roles in “The Return,” featuring acclaimed actors Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche, as well as appearances in “Kandahar” and “The Gentlemen.” He is represented by UTA and the Curtis Brown Group in the UK.

Fans can look forward to the film’s release on September 11, 2026, adding to the expanding universe of DC’s cinematic offerings. The anticipation surrounding “Clayface” not only highlights Harries’ rising career but also signals a renewed interest in exploring unique character narratives within the superhero genre. This creative direction from DC Studios represents a promising future for its storytelling approach.
