DAZN, the international sports streaming service, has appointed Rebecca McCloy, a veteran from Foxtel Group, as its new group chief commercial officer, a role she will assume in Europe. McCloy, who has dedicated over 12 years to her position as executive director of commercial and sport at Foxtel, will report directly to DAZN’s CEO, Shay Segev.
In her new capacity, McCloy will oversee global rights and acquisitions for DAZN, collaborating with local teams across the company’s various markets to drive business growth and enhance fan engagement through innovative commercial strategies.
Adam Howarth, currently Foxtel’s director of content acquisitions and sports partnerships, will take over McCloy’s former role. Howarth brings three decades of experience to his new position, where he will focus on Foxtel’s sport acquisition strategy and manage content, channel, and commercial partnerships across Kayo Sports, Fox Sports Australia, and Foxtel.
Marc Watson, the outgoing chief commercial officer at DAZN and a co-founder of Eleven Sports, will transition to a newly developed role assisting CEO Shay Segev with strategic initiatives.
Segev expressed confidence in McCloy’s capabilities, stating, “Rebecca is highly regarded across the global sports landscape, having played leading roles in securing both Australian and international commercial deals for Foxtel Group, solidifying its position as Australia’s sport leader.” He emphasized that her extensive experience will be crucial as DAZN seeks to expand its influence as the preeminent global platform for sports.
Reflecting on her time at Foxtel, McCloy remarked, “It’s been a privilege to work with some of the great off-field leaders in Australian sports to expand audiences for their codes and develop sport at the grassroots levels.” She expressed excitement about her new global role with DAZN and the prospect of continuing her collaboration with the Foxtel Group as they explore new opportunities together.
This transition comes on the heels of DAZN’s significant acquisition of Foxtel for A$3.4 billion ($2.2 billion), highlighting the strategic shifts taking place in the sports streaming landscape. With McCloy at the helm of global commercial operations, DAZN aims to leverage her expertise to enhance its offerings and strengthen its position in the competitive sports media market.
