Veteran actor Chris Robinson, known for his memorable roles on daytime television, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 9 at the age of 86. Robinson, who had been battling heart failure, died at his ranch near Sedona, Arizona. His co-star from the 2022 film Just for a Week, MJ Allen, confirmed the news on social media.
Robinson’s acting career began in the 1960s with guest appearances on a variety of popular TV shows, including Sea Hunt, Death Valley Days, and Gunsmoke. In 1967, he secured his first regular role as Sgt. Alexander “Sandy” Komansky in the ABC military drama 12 O’Clock High, which marked the beginning of a prolific career in television.
Notably, Robinson gained fame for his portrayal of Dr. Rick Webber on General Hospital, a character caught in a complicated love quadrangle that entangled him with several prominent characters on the show. His portrayal earned him a special place in the hearts of fans, and he became recognizable for his lighthearted commercials for Vicks Formula 44, where he humorously claimed, “I’m Not a Doctor, But I Play One on TV.”
After his successful stint on General Hospital, Robinson took on roles in Another World and The Bold and the Beautiful, further showcasing his versatility as an actor. In addition to his television roles, he appeared in films like The Young Savages and Birdman of Alcatraz, both of which starred the legendary Burt Lancaster.
