In the midst of the Denver Broncos’ coaching landscape, quarterback coach and passing game coordinator Davis Webb is garnering attention as a potential candidate for advancing to higher-level coaching roles in the NFL. Although Joe Lombardi holds the title of offensive coordinator, head coach Sean Payton firmly steers the offense, leaving Webb’s emerging contributions and expertise under the spotlight.
Diana Russini of The Athletic recently highlighted Webb as one of several NFL position coaches who might be “Leveling Up” towards coordinator roles by 2026. Her observation reflects the growing recognition of young coaches who are beginning to show promise. Alongside Webb, names such as Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski and Panthers offensive coordinator Brad Idzik were also noted for their potential rise in the coaching ranks.
Webb’s journey to this point has been marked by a unique history that includes playing alongside some of the league’s elite talents. Notably, he alternated as a starting quarterback with Baker Mayfield during his freshman year before transferring to Oklahoma. Later, with his final season at Cal, Webb had an impressive record, throwing for 4,295 yards and 37 touchdowns, which led to his selection in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft.
After spending seven seasons as a backup for teams like the Giants, Jets, and Bills, Webb joined the Broncos in 2023. His promotion to pass game coordinator in 2025 reflects his growing influence and potential within the team. Looking ahead, it’s not just coordinator positions that could be on the horizon for Webb; he may also be considered for head coaching roles. Should that materialize, Webb would narrowly miss out on the title of the youngest head coach in NFL history, turning 31 just weeks after his 2024 birthday.
NFL Insider Jordan Schultz suggested that teams might pursue unconventional candidates for head coaching vacancies, with Webb emerging as a noteworthy prospect. Positive feedback from his time in Denver suggests that Webb is making a strong impression, notably drawing attention from the New York Giants, who have expressed admiration for him.
The potential scenario where Broncos’ defensive coordinator Vance Joseph gets hired as head coach could also lead to Webb following him, providing him with the opportunity to command the offense. With his trajectory suggesting significant upward mobility, Webb’s future in the NFL coaching landscape remains bright, adding an element of anticipation as the Broncos look to shape their coaching staff for years to come.
