David Schwartz Departs as Ripple’s CTO, Hinting at a New XRP Ledger Era

David Schwartz, the Chief Technology Officer of Ripple, has announced that he will conclude his 13-year tenure in this role at the end of the year. In a heartfelt message shared on X, Schwartz described this transition as a personal inflection point following four decades of work in technology. Although he will step back from day-to-day duties, he reassured the XRP community that he will remain involved, emphasizing, “You haven’t seen the last of me—now or ever.”

Schwartz’s journey with Ripple began in 2011 when he, Arthur Britto, Jed McCaleb, and Chris Larsen collaborated on the XRP Ledger. Reflecting on his experiences at Ripple, he referred to it as “a wild ride.” He expressed excitement about dedicating more time to family and reigniting his hobbies. Recently, he has been engaged in activities such as setting up his own XRPL node and exploring new applications for XRP.

Following this shift, Schwartz will adopt a CTO emeritus role while also joining Ripple’s board of directors. His vision for the future of the XRP Ledger includes a focus on stablecoins, tokenized assets, and decentralization. In discussions about the potential of XRP, he highlighted the importance of matching digital assets to suitable use cases, noting that volatility may benefit certain applications.

In a previous interview, Schwartz addressed misconceptions surrounding Ripple and the XRP Ledger, particularly dispelling the belief that Ripple controls the ledger. He underscored that the XRP Ledger operates with a decentralized group of validators, the majority of which are independent of Ripple.

As he prepares to transition, Schwartz praised Ripple’s leadership team, including President Monica Long, Executive Chairman Chris Larsen, and SVP of Engineering Dennis Jarosch, while expressing confidence in the future of the XRP community. His commitment to fostering innovation within the cryptocurrency landscape remains steadfast, leaving a positive outlook for the advancements that lie ahead.
