Dave Grohl, the lead singer of Foo Fighters, announced on Tuesday that he has welcomed a baby girl outside his marriage to Jordyn Blum. The 55-year-old musician shared the news via a brief post on Instagram on September 10.
In his post, Grohl expressed his commitment to being a loving and supportive parent: “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.” He also requested privacy for all the children involved as the family navigates this new situation.
He disabled comments on his message, reflecting a desire for privacy during this time. Grohl has been married to Blum since 2003, and they share three daughters: Violet Maye, 18; Harper Willow, 15; and Ophelia Saint, 10. Before his marriage to Blum, Grohl was married to Jennifer Youngblood from 1994 to 1997.
Grohl typically keeps details about his relationship with Blum private, though they frequently appear together at various events. Reflecting on their early days, Grohl recounted in a 2007 interview that after a few dates, he thought he wasn’t ready for a serious relationship and stopped calling Blum. After three months, he felt a change of heart and reached out, to which Blum responded, “Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again.”
Grohl humorously noted that one of Blum’s pet peeves is his hearing loss, which often requires her to repeat herself during conversations. He compared her voice to a teacher from the “Charlie Brown” cartoons when she asks where they should dine.
Over the years, Grohl has indicated that Blum has inspired several Foo Fighters songs. During an interview in 2006, he mentioned a song from their album “One By One,” titled “Burn Away,” explaining it as a romantic piece written during his courtship with Blum, although he expressed some embarrassment about it now. He also revealed to GQ in 2008 that another track, “Statues,” from the album “Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace,” was inspired by their relationship.
Blum has also featured in the band’s music video for their 2011 single “White Limo,” where she is seen playfully interacting with the band.
The couple made a rare appearance together at the 2023 Grammys, where Grohl, Blum, and their daughters showcased a united front on the red carpet. Grohl wore an all-black outfit while Blum donned a stylish black and white mini dress. Their oldest daughter, Violet, who is also pursuing music, was present along with her two younger sisters. The family was spotted again in July at Wimbledon, where Grohl opted for a formal black suit with an orange tie, while Blum wore a blue button-down dress.
