Dave Coulier, widely recognized for his role as “Uncle Joey” on the beloved ABC sitcom “Full House,” shared some unfortunate news on Wednesday regarding his health. The 65-year-old actor revealed during an appearance on NBC’s “Today” that he has been diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Coulier, a native of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, first suspected something was wrong in October when he began experiencing symptoms after what initially felt like a cold. He discovered a significant lump in his groin, which prompted him to seek medical attention. “It swelled up immediately,” he said, reflecting on the moment he realized he needed to address his health. After undergoing various tests and a biopsy of the lymph node, doctors confirmed his diagnosis of B-cell lymphoma. “It was a shock,” he admitted.
The actor is currently undergoing a rigorous treatment plan that includes six rounds of chemotherapy, scheduled every 21 days, with the expectation of completing it by February 2025. Coulier described his experience so far as a “roller coaster,” with some days leaving him feeling quite well, while others require him to rest.
Recently, Coulier attended the Motor City Comic Con in Metro Detroit and took this opportunity to use his platform to raise awareness about cancer. He emphasized the importance of early detection and urged others to consider routine screenings. “It’s a really simple thing to do and it can add years to your life,” he advised, encouraging everyone to seek pre-screenings, mammograms, colonoscopies, and prostate exams.
Coulier’s openness about his health challenges not only highlights the personal struggle he faces but also serves as a beacon of hope for others. By sharing his story, he aims to inspire those who may be reluctant to seek medical advice or screenings, ultimately promoting a proactive approach to health and wellness.
This announcement stands as a reminder of the importance of regular check-ups and listening to one’s body, potentially saving lives through early detection.
