Davante Adams is continuing to demonstrate remarkable performance in his 12th NFL season, proving that age is just a number. Now 32 years old, he has transitioned to his third team in just two years, currently donning the colors of the Los Angeles Rams instead of the New York Jets as the 2025 season unfolds. With a crucial matchup against the San Francisco 49ers approaching on Thursday Night Football, it’s pertinent to reflect on Adams’ journey that led him to Los Angeles.
Adams was drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers, where he quickly became a key player, averaging close to 700 receiving yards and six touchdowns during his rookie contract. His consistency over eight seasons included an impressive tally with seven campaigns exceeding 1,000 receiving yards, with four seasons boasting over 1,300 yards.
After parting ways with the Packers following the 2021 season, Adams joined the Las Vegas Raiders for a couple of years before a midseason trade in 2024 brought him to the Jets, reuniting him with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. His stint in New York was productive; over 11 games, he secured 114 receptions for 854 yards and seven touchdowns. However, as the Jets began a rebuild under a new head coach, they decided to release Adams, partly due to his sizeable $38 million cap hit for the upcoming season.
The Jets ultimately opted for a change, which opened the door for the Rams to sign Adams to a two-year deal worth $44 million, averaging $22 million per year—$16 million less than what he would have made under his Jets contract. Thus far, this decision appears to have been a beneficial one for Los Angeles. With former triple-crown winner Cooper Kupp departing in the offseason, there was a clear necessity for a secondary receiver to complement Puka Nacua.
For Adams, this move represents a fresh start and a chance to revitalize his career following a few challenging seasons. “It’s been exactly what I needed, feeling rejuvenated and really, really enjoying the time with the guys, getting to know them, getting on the same page with Matthew (Stafford), and just kind of gelling with the whole team right now,” Adams noted upon joining the Rams. The camaraderie he’s experienced has made him feel at home within the team.
To date, Adams has made a strong impression this season, posting 17 receptions for 269 yards and three touchdowns, including a notable 44-yard touchdown reception against the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles. His performance has earned him a spot as a reliable target for Stafford, complementing Nacua, who currently ranks as the top wide receiver according to PFSN’s WR Impact metric.
As Adams gears up for the match against San Francisco, it’s evident that his move to Los Angeles is not only revitalizing for him personally but is also beneficial for the Rams as they look to solidify their competitive edge in the league.
