Danielle Fishel, known for her role in “Boy Meets World,” recently disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis during an episode of her podcast “Pod Meets World.” At 43 years old, Fishel revealed that she has been diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a very early form of breast cancer classified as stage zero.
In the August 19 episode, Fishel explained her decision to share her diagnosis, inspired by the experiences of others. She mentioned her intention to undergo surgery to remove the cancer. Initially, she planned to inform only her immediate family and close friends but decided to speak out after reading author Glennon Doyle’s perspective on sharing personal stories.
She highlighted the importance of early detection, noting that her cancer was caught early thanks to a reminder on her phone for her annual mammogram. Fishel expressed her hope that by sharing her experience, she could encourage others to prioritize their health and schedule their appointments, especially if they have not done so in the past.
According to breastcancer.org, while DCIS is not life-threatening, it does increase the risk of developing invasive breast cancer in the future. Fishel’s podcast co-hosts, Rider Strong and Will Friedle, were among the first to learn about her diagnosis and assured her of their support during this challenging time.
