Darius Slayton, Jones’ former teammate and wide receiver with the Giants, expressed his unwavering belief in Jones’ talent and work ethic. Following a practice session ahead of the Giants’ upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers at MetLife Stadium, Slayton stated, “I can’t say I’m surprised. I’ve always believed in Daniel. He put in the work and he’s talented, and it’s showing.”
Reflecting on Jones’ dedication, Slayton remarked that success often follows those who approach their work with the right mindset and effort. In contrast, Slayton’s performance has declined since Jones’ departure; after signing a three-year, $36 million contract earlier this year, he has managed just 14 receptions for 192 yards and faced challenges with injuries and adapting to different quarterbacks.
Despite facing his own struggles, Slayton has remained supportive of Jones, expressing pride in his former teammate’s accomplishments. “I’m happy for him, proud of him, and glad he got his chance to show who he is and what kind of caliber player he is,” Slayton said. “You’re happy to see that person come out on the other side… With the way he fights, I knew he’d be successful eventually.”
