Daniel Day-Lewis Shocks Fans with Comeback for Son’s Directorial Debut

Actor Daniel Day-Lewis is stepping out of retirement to support his son, Ronan, who is making his directorial debut with the film “Anemone.” This marks Day-Lewis’ return to the screen after a seven-year break from Hollywood. The film, which the father-son duo co-wrote, is described as an exploration of the complex relationships between fathers, sons, and brothers, focusing on familial dynamics, according to Variety.

Recently, the 67-year-old actor was spotted filming in Manchester, England, where he rode a motorcycle alongside co-star Sean Bean, known for his role in “The Lord of the Rings.” Shortly after, Focus Features and Plan B Entertainment announced their partnership to co-produce the project.

Peter Kujawski, chair of Focus Features, expressed enthusiasm about working with Ronan Day-Lewis and his father, stating, “They have written a truly exceptional script, and we look forward to bringing their shared vision to audiences alongside the team at Plan B.”

Ronan Day-Lewis, 26, is an accomplished painter who recently showcased his work in New York and debuted his first international solo exhibition titled “That Summer We All Saw Them” in Hong Kong.

Daniel Day-Lewis had previously announced his retirement from acting in 2017, just before receiving another best actor nomination for “Phantom Thread.” At the time, his representative stated that he would no longer be acting and described the decision as personal and private.

Reflecting on his retirement, Day-Lewis later shared with W Magazine that there was no specific reason for his departure from acting, but it felt necessary. He stated, “All my life, I’ve mouthed off about how I should stop acting… the impulse to quit took root in me.”

In January, Day-Lewis reunited with director Martin Scorsese, who hinted at the possibility of the actor returning to filmmaking.

Focus Features has not yet announced a release date for “Anemone,” but revealed key crew members including director of photography Ben Fordesman, costume designer Jane Petrie, and production designer Chris Oddy.

It remains uncertain if Day-Lewis will participate in other acting projects beyond this film, as attempts to contact his representatives for further comments have been unsuccessful.
