Daniel Craig’s new film Queer is set to have its British premiere at this year’s London Film Festival, as announced by the event’s organizers. Following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where it garnered significant attention, Queer is based on William Burroughs’ 1985 novel and tells the story of a man’s journey through the American expatriate community in Mexico during the 1950s. Craig’s performance has received acclaim, with some critics highlighting it as outstanding, while others had mixed reactions.
In addition to Craig, the festival will feature films from other Hollywood stars including Angelina Jolie, Zoe Saldaña, and Amy Adams. Jolie stars in Maria, portraying the famous opera singer Maria Callas, with many experts predicting her strong chances in the upcoming Oscars race. Saldaña appears in Emilia Pérez, where she plays a lawyer entangled with a Mexican cartel. Ralph Fiennes is also anticipated to be a contender for best actor for his role in Conclave, a film about the papal election process.
Other highlighted films include Nightbitch, starring Amy Adams as a mother who believes she might be transforming into a dog, and a documentary titled Elton John: Never Too Late, which follows the musician during his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. The festival will kick off with the premiere of Blitz, directed by Oscar-winner Steve McQueen, and will conclude with Piece by Piece, a documentary about Pharrell Williams using LEGO animation.
