Dallas Cowboys Legend Tom Rafferty Passes Away at 70

Former Cowboys offensive lineman Tom Rafferty passed away on Thursday in Windsor, Colorado, at the age of 70, following complications from a stroke. According to his daughter, Rachel Powers, Rafferty had been hospitalized since early May.

Drafted by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 1976 NFL Draft, Rafferty dedicated his entire 14-year career to the Dallas Cowboys, becoming a key player alongside legendary quarterbacks Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman. He solidified his reputation by taking over at right guard during his second season, starting there for four seasons before transitioning to center. Remarkably, he played in two Super Bowls and set a franchise record by contributing to 167 consecutive games, a milestone that stood for years.

Rafferty’s career concluded after the 1989 season when he was replaced midway through by Mark Stepnoski, wrapping up his time with 203 game appearances and 182 starts. Following his retirement from football, Rafferty embarked on a new venture in sports equipment sales.

His legacy not only includes his contributions on the field but also the impact he had within the Dallas Cowboys organization and the community. The outpouring of tributes highlights the respect and admiration he garnered throughout his life and career.
