The Dallas Cowboys have finalized a four-year contract worth $240 million with quarterback Dak Prescott, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history, according to various reports.
This agreement includes $231 million in guaranteed money, with ESPN being the first to report the signing.
Prescott was approaching the final year of his existing contract, and this lengthy negotiation culminated in him securing the largest contract in league history, translating to $60 million per season.
Now entering his ninth season in the NFL, Prescott, 31, was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft and has spent his entire career with the Cowboys. Throughout his tenure, he holds a 73-41 overall record, though he has struggled in the playoffs with a 2-5 postseason record.
In the previous season, Prescott achieved personal bests with 410 completions and 36 touchdown passes, amassing 4,516 passing yards while only throwing nine interceptions. He led the Cowboys to a 12-5 record, but the team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs at home by the Green Bay Packers.
Prescott becomes the second Cowboy to secure a new contract following extended negotiations this offseason, joining his top receiver, CeeDee Lamb. Both Prescott and Lamb are now under contract through 2028.
The Cowboys are set to face the Cleveland Browns in their Week 1 season opener.
