The Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs is set to make a remarkable comeback, hosting an Opening Night Gala with the renowned Emmy, Tony, and Grammy award-winning actress Cynthia Erivo. The event will take place on Monday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m., marking a significant milestone in the theatre’s restoration journey.

Tickets for the gala will be available through Ticketmaster’s Ticket Request system, opening on Tuesday, October 21, at 10:00 a.m. PST, and closing on Monday, October 27, at 10:00 p.m. PST. Fans will be limited to two tickets per request, with each ticket offering a unique experience. Attendees will receive a copy of Erivo’s forthcoming book, “Simply More: A Book for Anyone Who Has Been Told They’re Too Much,” alongside a commemorative ticket and a limited-edition poster created specifically for the gala.

Erivo’s performance will feature a collaboration with Mark Meadows and the Palm Springs Pops Orchestra. The gala is sponsored by Richard Wood and Michael Blasingame, showcasing the community’s support for this prestigious event. “Opening Night at the Plaza is the moment we’ve all been waiting for,” said John Bolton, Senior Vice President of Oak View Group and General Manager of the Plaza Theatre. Bolton emphasized the importance of Erivo’s role in ushering in a vibrant new phase for the historic venue.

The Plaza Theatre is one of the oldest and most iconic establishments in Palm Springs, having been closed since 2014. It has undergone extensive renovations aimed at restoring its original charm, boosting excitement for what is anticipated to be an unforgettable evening.

Cynthia Erivo is celebrated for her remarkable talent, recently starring as Elphaba in Universal’s blockbuster adaptation of “WICKED,” which has soared to become the highest-grossing film of its kind. Beyond her successful run in film and theatre, she is also a gifted songwriter with several acclaimed albums to her name and will return to the West End in 2026 in an exciting one-woman theatrical production of “Dracula.”

With the gala scheduled just after the anticipated release of “Wicked: For Good,” the excitement continues to build around Erivo’s celebrated career. Her past acknowledgments include a Breakthrough Performance Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival for her role in “Harriet” and the Creative Impact in Acting Award for her work in “WICKED.” This event not only marks a significant cultural moment for Palm Springs but also promises to usher in a new chapter for both the Plaza Theatre and Erivo’s illustrious career.
