James Marsden returns to his iconic role as Cyclops in the highly anticipated film “Avengers: Doomsday,” with a new teaser released ahead of its theatrical debut on December 18. As the X-Men make their comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the preview prominently features Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto, engaging in a contemplative discussion about mortality. “The question is: Who would you be when you close your eyes?” Professor X muses during the footage.

Following this introspective moment, fans get a glimpse of Scott Summers—Cyclops—back in action, preparing for the epic showdown alongside heroes like Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth) and Steve Rogers (portrayed by Chris Evans). The all-star lineup is set to face off against Doctor Doom, portrayed by Marvel stalwart Robert Downey Jr., in one of two Avengers films slated for release this year.

Marsden first brought Cyclops to life in “X-Men” (2000), with subsequent appearances in “X2: X-Men United” (2003) and “X-Men: The Last Stand” (2006), where his character met a tragic end. However, this time around, he returns to explore what could be a new chapter for Cyclops. Marsden reflected on his return to the Marvel universe in a recent interview, expressing both excitement and humor about donning the superhero costume once more. “I’m getting a little long in the tooth to put on the superhero costume,” he joked while emphasizing the significance of being part of such a monumental project. “It’s been a nice little homecoming to a role that really put me on the map,” he added.

Leading up to the release of “Avengers: Doomsday,” fans can look forward to the theatrical rerelease of “Avengers: Endgame” on September 25, a film that marked a pivotal moment in Marvel’s narrative arc and concluded the storyline of the formidable villain Thanos, encompassing the ambitious Phase Three of Marvel’s cinematic journey.

With the return of beloved characters and the continuation of interconnected storylines, excitement builds as fans prepare for another thrilling installment in the Marvel franchise. This resurgence of the X-Men within the wider universe represents not just a nostalgic return but also new beginnings full of potential for the characters and storyline ahead.
