Cyclones Crush Red Wolves: A Historic Win for Iowa State Football

Iowa State football showcased their dominance in their game against Arkansas State, securing a convincing 52-7 victory. The No. 20 Cyclones outperformed the Red Wolves significantly, recording 490 total yards compared to Arkansas State’s 182. A total of six players from Iowa State found the end zone throughout the game.

This win marked head coach Matt Campbell’s 56th victory with the Cyclones, tying him with Dan McCarney for the most wins in school history. Freshman Aidan Flora made an impact by scoring his first career touchdown near the end of the game, capping off an 8-play, 75-yard drive.

Iowa State’s offense was efficient, with the team gaining 287 yards in the first half alone, while their defense stifled Arkansas State’s efforts, forcing two turnovers and holding them to just one converted third down out of seven attempts. The Cyclones took a commanding 31-0 lead into halftime.

During the game, Timmy McClain replaced Arkansas State’s quarterback and managed to help the team score their only touchdown late in the fourth quarter with a 27-yard pass to Hunter Summers. This ended a 55-minute scoring drought for the Red Wolves.

In an impressive performance, the Cyclones also benefited from contributions from their younger players, including true freshman running back Dylan Lee, who scored his first career touchdown on a 1-yard run. Iowa State’s victory propels them to a 3-0 record as they look forward to beginning their Big 12 conference play next week against Houston.

Next week, the Cyclones will be traveling to face the Cougars in what will be the first meeting between the two teams on the football field, although kickoff time and broadcasting details have yet to be announced. Meanwhile, the Iowa Hawkeyes are set to take a bye week before facing Ohio State on October 5.
