As Rewa prepares for their upcoming match against Labasa in the Pillay Garments Champion v Champion (CvC) tournament, head coach Priyant Mannu emphasizes the need for improvement in specific areas following their recent 1-0 victory over the Babasiga Lions. The match, held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori, showcased the team’s strengths but also highlighted areas requiring fine-tuning, particularly in ball management and finishing ability.
Mannu expressed that the first game revealed significant changes in the team, and as they gear up for their second encounter, it is crucial they convert opportunities into goals. “We need to manage the ball well and also our finishing. If we get chances, we have to finish it off,” he remarked, underlining the team’s focus as they aim to replicate their success against Labasa.
The previous match was played in challenging conditions, with rain impacting the game just as spectators moved to higher ground for shelter. Despite the weather interruptions, Rewa managed to maintain composure and secure the win, a testament to their resilience on home turf.
On the other hand, Labasa is also looking to make adjustments ahead of their match. Coach Alvin Chand recognizes that his team, which has undergone several changes, needs to reassess their strategies during this week’s preparation. “We have one whole week to prepare and we have seen now what are the areas of improvement,” Chand noted, indicating a proactive approach to refining their game plan before facing the strong Rewa side.
The CvC tournament continues to showcase the rivalry and talent within Fijian football, bringing together champions from both the Fiji FACT and the Inter-District Championship. With both teams eager to address their shortcomings, this weekend’s match promises to be an exciting battle as they vie for the prestigious title.
