Jamie Lee Curtis is expressing her thoughts boldly regarding criticism directed at her latest film, “Freakier Friday,” the sequel to her 2003 hit comedy “Freaky Friday.” The film, which reunites Curtis with Lindsay Lohan, sees them navigating new family dynamics and body-swapping antics.

Curtis took to Instagram to reply to a review by Stephanie Zacharek, who questioned the demand for a sequel, stating, “No one, as far as we know, actually asked Disney for a sequel to 2003’s buoyant, surprisingly unsyrupy generation-gap comedy ‘Freaky Friday.’” Curtis countered, saying, “SEEMS a TAD HARSH. SOME people LOVE it. Me being one,” indicating her belief that the film resonates with many viewers.

Critics appear to be split, but audience reception has been positive. “Freakier Friday” boasts a 73% critic score and an impressive 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is performing well financially as well, having grossed $12.7 million on its opening day, with projections estimating a total of $27 to $30 million over its first weekend.

Set decades after the original, the plot follows Anna, now a mother herself, as she faces the challenges of blending her family with that of her soon-to-be stepdaughter. The star-studded cast includes Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, with direction by Nisha Ganatra and a script from Jordan Weiss, Elyse Hollander, and Mary Rodgers.

Further bolstering its appeal, Owen Gleiberman of Variety praised the film for its effective slapstick elements and humor, suggesting it successfully revitalizes the beloved body-swap narrative.

The enthusiastic audience response and financial success indicate that Curtis and Lohan’s reunion is a hit among fans, adding a positive spin to the film’s reception amidst mixed critics’ reviews.
