SAN FRANCISCO — In a historic moment for the NBA, Dell and Steph Curry have now played the most games of any father-son duo, achieving their milestone during Saturday night’s 123-114 triumph over the Utah Jazz. With this victory, the Currys surpassed the previous record held by Hall of Famers Dolph Schayes and his son, Danny, totaling 2,135 games played together.
Dell Curry, who enjoyed a successful 16-season career in the NBA, was known for his exceptional shooting skills, becoming one of the most esteemed long-range shooters of his era. Following in his father’s footsteps, Steph Curry has made a name for himself as the greatest 3-point shooter in the history of the game, holding the record for the most three-pointers made by any player, with an impressive tally of 4,177 as of Saturday night.
Adding to the family’s rich basketball legacy, Dell’s younger son, Seth Curry, has also made significant strides in the NBA, currently in his 12th season. Seth, who has played in 522 games and boasts a career 3-point shooting percentage of 43.3%, is making a push toward reaching the milestone of 1,000 career three-pointers, having entered the game with 947 made.
When Dell Curry retired in the 2001-02 season, he ranked 10th in NBA history with 1,245 career three-pointers. The remarkable achievements of both Dell and Steph highlight the family’s impact on the game, especially in an era where shooting continues to dominate.
During Saturday’s game, Steph marked another milestone by scoring 20 points in the third quarter, his third instance this season of scoring 20 points in a single quarter. This performance also added to his historic record, making it the 45th time in his career that he has achieved this feat, the most by any player since he entered the league in 2009.
Reflecting on the significance of this record, Steph expressed gratitude and pride. “It’s cool,” he said. “Just longevity and the family business being in this game… Knowing that (Dell) played for 16 years, I’m in my 17th year still trying to do it. A dream come true to be honest.”
The Curry family’s achievements not only celebrate their individual talents but also showcase the enduring legacy they have built together in the world of basketball.
