Curaçao has made a name for itself as an ideal destination for beach lovers, boasting over 35 beaches that cater to every type of sun-seeker. During a recent visit, I discovered that some beaches, such as Playa Piskad, were popular among locals, offering an uncrowded and relaxing atmosphere. In contrast, beaches like Grote Knip and Playa Kalki, tucked away in serene coves, provided a peaceful retreat.

The island’s Dutch heritage is evident in its culinary offerings, particularly with popular snacks like bitterballen, a fried meat delicacy. Additionally, Curaçao has cultivated a vibrant gin-and-tonic culture, with local spirits, including Dutch genever—a spirit reminiscent of gin—adding a unique twist. At Zest Restaurant & Beach Cafe on the lively Jan Thiel Beach, I enjoyed exploring an extensive gin-and-tonic menu while also sampling the island’s signature bright-blue liqueur.

The picturesque Handelskade, featuring a row of brightly painted Dutch colonial buildings along the waterfront in Willemstad, served as an idyllic backdrop for photos. As a bonus, being part of the ABC islands—along with Aruba and Bonaire—Curaçao benefits from being less prone to severe hurricane impacts, making it an appealing choice for travel year-round.

With its breathtaking beaches, vibrant culture, and stunning scenery, Curaçao represents a charming getaway full of delightful experiences.
