CBS is set to launch a new legal drama titled “Cupertino,” created by the acclaimed duo Robert and Michelle King, marking a return to the network following the success of their previous series, “The Good Wife.” The show has been officially ordered for the 2026-27 season and stars Mike Colter, known for his work on the Kings’ supernatural drama “Evil.”
The premise of “Cupertino” is a compelling David vs. Goliath narrative situated in Silicon Valley. It centers on Colter’s character, a lawyer who confronts his former tech employer over unfair treatment regarding his stock options. He teams up with another recently dismissed attorney to advocate for those exploited by the powerful tech elite, cultivating a story filled with tension and high stakes.
The decision to greenlight “Cupertino” follows positive feedback from CBS on early materials produced by the writers’ room that was formed after the Kings’ pilot script was well received. The writers’ room opened in September, coinciding with Robert King’s completion of directing an episode for another CBS series, “Elsbeth.” Following this, the writers delivered the first batch of scripts to CBS.
As part of CBS’ development strategy, “Cupertino” joins another series, “Einstein,” featuring Matthew Gray Gubler, both set to debut in the 2026-27 season. With significant backing from CBS Studios, the Kings will serve as co-showrunners, with Robert King also directing the series premiere. The project is produced under their banner, King Size Productions, alongside executive producer Liz Glotzer.
The introduction of “Cupertino” promises to enhance CBS’s lineup, tapping into current societal themes surrounding technology, justice, and individual rights in the modern world. The combination of the Kings’ storytelling acumen and Colter’s performance is highly anticipated, aiming to resonate with viewers seeking engaging and thought-provoking content.
