As Chelsea gears up to host Barcelona at Stamford Bridge on November 25, Cucurella is expected to take on the role of the first-choice left-back, tasked with defending against the talented teenager. The two players, who also share a spot on the Spain national team, have faced off in training, adding a layer of familiarity to their upcoming competitive match.
Cucurella jokingly noted that Yamal’s decision to withdraw from the national team could be partially attributed to the preparation strategy he discussed with the young player. “I think he left the training camp because I told him how I would start doing my homework here in training,” Cucurella said with a smile. “He told me that from then on, we would be rivals. It will be a great match and a good test for us too. We’re really looking forward to it.”
