SunFed Produce LLC is recalling all sizes of whole fresh American cucumbers sold across 26 states, including New York, as well as parts of Canada. This recall stems from potential salmonella contamination, as reported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The cucumbers, which were on the market from October 12 to November 26, pose a risk as salmonella can lead to severe and sometimes life-threatening infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Consumers are advised to confirm whether they possess any of the recalled cucumbers and to dispose of them to avert any health risks. The recall affects the following states: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

The recall was prompted after the FDA alerted SunFed to reports of illnesses associated with salmonellosis. Craig Slate, president of SunFed, emphasized the company’s longstanding commitment to food safety and consumer health, stating that the company mandates strict adherence to FDA food safety standards among its growers. SunFed is actively engaging with its direct buyers to communicate details of the recall, assuring that no other products from the company or its supplied farms are affected.
