Cubs’ Outfielders Make All-Star History After 90 Years!

For the first time in nearly 90 years, the Chicago Cubs are making headlines with two outfielders named as starters for the All-Star Game. Center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and right fielder Kyle Tucker have both secured their spots for the Midsummer Classic, scheduled for July 15 at Truist Park in Atlanta. Their selection marks a significant achievement for the Cubs, as the last duo of outfielders to achieve this feat were Frank Demaree and Augie Galan back in 1936.

Crow-Armstrong, now in his second full major-league season at just 23 years old, has been an essential part of the Cubs’ lineup, boasting 21 home runs, 62 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases before the team’s recent matchup with the Cleveland Guardians. His performance earned him the second spot in outfield voting, just behind Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. Crow-Armstrong expressed excitement over his selection, stating, “It’s obviously one of the cooler accomplishments thus far in my playing career,” and graciously acknowledging the support he has received from fans.

Tucker, 28, who joined the Cubs this season from the Houston Astros, also had a strong showing with 17 home runs, 52 RBIs, and 20 steals prior to the All-Star announcement and has previously represented the American League in the All-Star Game. He highlighted the importance of fan support in helping him reach this milestone, saying, “I just really want to thank the fans for their support all year.”

This event feels especially significant with Cubs catcher Carson Kelly finishing second in All-Star voting among catchers, an encouraging indicator of the team’s overall talent pool. Cubs players, including shortstop Dansby Swanson and left fielder Ian Happ, have emphasized the importance of the fan base and the opportunity the All-Star Game presents for inspiring younger generations of baseball players.

As the excitement builds for the All-Star festivities, Cubs fans can remain hopeful about the bright future of their team, especially with the possibility of more All-Stars to follow, as reserves and pitchers will be announced soon. It is a noteworthy moment for the Cubs and their fans, celebrating the fruits of hard work, dedication, and community support.
