Crystal Palace has come to an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur regarding the acquisition of Brennan Johnson, pending the winger’s personal decision about the move. The clubs have reportedly settled on a transfer fee of around £35 million (€40 million; $47 million) for the 24-year-old Wales international, who is also attracting interest from other teams ahead of the January transfer window.
Should Johnson accept the transfer, it would bolster the attacking options for Palace manager Oliver Glasner as the team navigates both domestic competitions and European commitments. This deal could rank as the fourth-highest sale in Tottenham’s history, following the sales of Gareth Bale, Harry Kane, and Kyle Walker, despite Johnson not being a part of head coach Thomas Frank’s long-term strategy.
According to a recent report from The Athletic, Johnson has been identified as Palace’s primary target during this winter transfer window. Last season, he emerged as Tottenham’s top scorer with 18 goals across all competitions, but his role has diminished this season, with only six Premier League starts to his name under Frank’s management.
Tottenham’s attacking lineup features numerous options, including summer addition Mohammed Kudus, who has taken over Johnson’s position on the right wing. Dejan Kulusevski, while also able to play as a right winger, has been sidelined since May due to a knee injury that required surgical intervention.
Previously, Johnson developed his talents at Nottingham Forest, playing a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League during the 2021-22 season before joining Spurs for £47.5 million in September 2023. Johnson made an immediate impact in his first season, recording five goals and 11 assists, aiding Tottenham in securing a spot in the Europa League. His breakout campaign followed in 2024-25, where he notably scored the decisive goal in the Europa League final, helping Spurs clinch their first major trophy in 17 years.
So far in the ongoing 2025-26 season, Johnson has appeared in 20 competitions, showcasing his versatility by playing on both flanks and contributing four goals.
