Crudup and Parker Rally Around Son William, a Rising Theater Talent

Billy Crudup and his ex-partner Mary-Louise Parker continue to prioritize their son, William, as evidenced by Crudup’s recent remarks during an interview with The Times. The 57-year-old actor expressed his deep admiration for their 21-year-old son, an emerging talent in acting, writing, and directing. When asked about the dynamics of his relationship with Parker, 61, following their split in 2003, Crudup emphasized their shared respect for William, stating, “Our adoration for our son is boundless.”

William has inherited a remarkable theatrical flair from both parents, with Crudup noting, “He has been endowed with superpowers for theatricality. He’s such a badass.” This support from both parents is prominent, as they have appeared in many of his projects.

Parker has also opened up about her feelings for Crudup, particularly regarding his marriage to Naomi Watts. In a June 2023 interview, she stated, “I wish them well,” highlighting a shared concern for their son as she expressed her hopes for her ex-partner’s happiness.

The couple started their relationship in 1996 while co-starring in the Broadway production of “Bus Stop.” However, their relationship ended dramatically while Parker was pregnant with their son, William. Crudup’s departure to date Claire Danes, whom he met during the filming of “Stage Beauty,” was widely publicized and controversial. Though the couple separated in 2003, they have consistently chosen to keep the details of their breakup private, with both actors acknowledging the personal nature of such matters.

In a 2017 interview, Crudup reflected on their past, emphasizing the importance of handling private matters discreetly, saying, “You have to live with the mistakes that you make.” His reluctance to delve into the specifics of their relationship echoes Parker’s own reserved approach to discussing their split, although she hinted at the emotional toll in her memoir, “Dear Mr. You.”

Following his relationship with Danes, Crudup began dating Naomi Watts in 2017 and they married in June 2023, celebrating their union in both New York and a second ceremony in Mexico. Meanwhile, Parker has adopted a daughter, Ash, further enriching her family life.

As both Crudup and Parker navigate their individual journeys while supporting their son, it reflects a hopeful narrative of resilience and co-parenting that prioritizes the well-being of their child amidst personal challenges.
