Fiji’s tourism sector has received a significant boost with the grand opening of the Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort and Spa. This multi-million-dollar redevelopment was inaugurated by Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo, who hailed it as a testament to the confidence in Fiji’s economy and its promising future.
The resort, a complete transformation of a previously iconic property, now features over 300 premium rooms and family suites, a state-of-the-art spa, seven dining outlets, and a substantial 600-seat convention center aimed at attracting international business events. Vosarogo emphasized that this development is more than just a new tourism venue; it has a profound national impact, bolstering the economy and enhancing the livelihoods of many Fijians. He noted that tourism contributed around $2.57 billion to the economy last year, supporting approximately 119,000 jobs, with nearly one million visitors arriving in Fiji, 79% of whom came for holidays.
The Acting Prime Minister pointed out how the Crowne Plaza plays a vital role in this growth trajectory, having already created numerous construction jobs and anticipated future employment for Fijians as its operations expand. The hotel’s ripple effect extends to various sectors, including local suppliers, tradespeople, farmers, and entertainers, further strengthening Fiji’s global brand in tourism.
He encouraged the management of the hotel to uphold strong environmental standards, emphasizing that responsible tourism is essential to preserve Fiji’s natural beauty, including its beaches, reefs, forests, and marine life. Vosarogo also credited the investors, landowners in Nadi, and the InterContinental Hotels Group for their commitment to Fiji amid global uncertainties.
