Cricket Fiji Gears Up for 2026 Season as Women’s Cricket Momentum Grows

Cricket Fiji is gearing up for an action-packed season in 2026, with plans to kick off their campaign as early as January. Chief Executive Sitiveni Rokoro has confirmed that the extended teams for both the men’s and women’s squads, along with junior teams, have already been selected.

As they prepare for an exciting year ahead, the organization awaits final confirmation regarding their participation in the Women’s Pacific Cup scheduled to be held in New Zealand. Rokoro mentioned the need for clarity in the plans that emerged from a regional meeting held last year, noting, “We are waiting for our next regional meeting this month.”

Aside from the Pacific Cup, Cricket Fiji is also set to compete in several other significant events including the EAP T20 Qualifier, the Women’s Under-19 World Cup Qualifiers taking place in Japan, and additional tournaments. In anticipation of these challenges, all teams will begin their off-season training next month, fostering readiness and skill development for the athletes.

Past articles have drawn attention to the growing prominence and investment in women’s cricket within Fiji, with the national team’s involvement in previous tournaments reflecting a commitment to the sport’s expansion. This season builds on that momentum, aspiring to create more opportunities for female athletes, signaling a hopeful future for cricket in the region.

With a proactive approach to nurturing talent at both the elite and grassroots levels, Cricket Fiji is not only focusing on immediate tournaments but is also strategizing for long-term growth in the sport. The excitement surrounding next year’s events underscores a promising trajectory for cricket, especially among women and the youth, as they aim for greater visibility on the international stage.
