Creighton University has triumphed in the BIG EAST Baseball Championship for the second time in its history, claiming victory over the University of Connecticut (UConn) with a final score of 7-4. This win, which took place at Prasco Park, marks an important milestone, securing Creighton its sixth regional bid under the leadership of their outgoing head coach. It is also the first such bid since 2019.

The Bluejays established an early lead in the game with an explosive hit from Connor Capece, who launched a home run to left field in the third inning. UConn managed to level the score with a home run from Caleb Shpur, but Creighton quickly regained the advantage. Following a hit by pitch, the Bluejays added another run when Will Maclean scored on a sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 3-1.

Despite UConn narrowing the gap with a solo homer from Beau Root, Creighton responded decisively, tacking on four more runs over the ensuing innings, including a two-RBI double that solidified their lead in the eighth inning. Connor Capece emerged as a standout player throughout the tournament, finishing with a remarkable 7-for-12 batting average, five RBIs, and two runs scored, ultimately earning the Jack Kaiser Most Outstanding Player Award.

With this victory, Creighton has secured the BIG EAST’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, and the full bracket is set to be revealed soon.
