Creed Humphrey has officially become the highest-paid center in NFL history after agreeing to a four-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs worth $72 million. The deal reportedly includes $50 million in guarantees, according to sources.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid expressed his appreciation for Humphrey, stating, “He’s a heck of a football player, a real good football player. He started off that way and he kept it going that way. So we appreciate all he does and we appreciate having him here.” Humphrey, who joined the Chiefs as a second-round draft pick from Oklahoma in 2021, has been a key player for the team since his debut.
At just 25 years old, Humphrey has established himself as a strong pass protector. In 2023, he achieved an impressive statistic, ranking second among the NFL’s interior offensive linemen with a pass block win rate of 98.8%. His teammate, guard Joe Thuney, was the only player ahead of him in that category.
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach shared his excitement about Humphrey’s future with the team, stating, “Needless to say, we’re extremely excited to continue Creed’s career here. He’s been great for our organization, and we have been very fortunate to have a really good group of young guys.”
In the backdrop, fellow starting guard Trey Smith, who was drafted alongside Humphrey, is entering the final season of his contract. Smith ranked third in the NFL in pass block win rate at 96.6%.
