Creed Humphrey Shatters NFL Record with Historic Contract Extension

Creed Humphrey has made headlines by becoming the highest-paid center in NFL history following a lucrative four-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs, reportedly worth $72 million. This substantial deal includes $50 million in guaranteed money, according to sources.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid praised Humphrey following the team’s preseason loss to the Chicago Bears, highlighting his talent and contributions since he entered the league. “He’s a heck of a football player, a real good football player. He started off that way and he kept it going that way,” Reid stated, expressing appreciation for Humphrey’s presence on the team.

At just 25 years old, Humphrey quickly established himself as a key player after being drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft from Oklahoma. His skills as a pass protector have stood out, with Humphrey ranking second among interior offensive linemen in the NFL for pass block win rate at 98.8% in 2023. The only player ahead of him is his teammate, guard Joe Thuney.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach shared his enthusiasm for Humphrey’s extension, stating, “Needless to say, we’re extremely excited to continue Creed’s career here. He’s been great for our organization.” Veach noted the talent of the Chiefs’ younger players and expressed hope for extending contracts with others as well.

Additionally, Trey Smith, the Chiefs’ other starting guard who also entered the league in 2021 alongside Humphrey, is set to play the final season of his contract. Smith ranked third in the NFL for pass block win rate at 96.6%.
