After nearly two months since Hoda Kotb announced her departure from TODAY, viewers can now anticipate a familiar face stepping in as co-anchor. Craig Melvin, who has dedicated nearly 14 years to NBC News, will join Savannah Guthrie as co-anchor during the 7 and 8 a.m. segments starting on Monday, January 13. Hoda will wrap up her morning duties on Friday, January 10.

“I am beyond excited and grateful,” Craig expressed during a TODAY segment on November 14. He described this new role as the latest blessing in his career.

Savannah shared her enthusiasm, noting that the decision to have Craig as the new co-anchor received widespread applause from the larger staff, calling it one of the most popular choices in NBC News history. Craig’s extensive experience at TODAY includes positions as weekend co-anchor and co-host of the 3rd hour, where he collaborates with Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer, and Sheinelle Jones.

“Craig stepping into the co-anchor chair is a thrilling moment for us,” commented Libby Leist, senior vice president of TODAY. She highlighted his invaluable contributions, stating, “He’s been an integral and beloved part of our family” while praising his talent and Southern charm.

Hoda praised Craig, acknowledging his qualifications for the position and expressing confidence that he was the right choice. Al Roker joined in via video, sharing his pride in Craig and affirming that this opportunity was well-deserved.

In addition, following Hoda’s exit, the fourth hour of TODAY, currently co-hosted by Hoda and Jenna Bush Hager since April 2019, will transition to TODAY with Jenna & Friends on January 13. This new iteration will feature a rotating lineup of co-hosts until a permanent partner is selected, promising exciting new content and games.

Hoda reflected on her journey, feeling that it was time to embrace a new chapter after turning 60. She described a moment of joy during a previous show as a sign that it was time to move on.

Craig has also publicly expressed admiration for Hoda, calling her authentically kind and invaluable to the show.

This transition marks the beginning of an exciting new era for TODAY, combining Craig’s experience and enthusiasm with Savannah’s established presence, ensuring viewers can look forward to continued engaging content.

Overall, this new chapter offers hope for revitalized energy and camaraderie among the TODAY team.
