After nearly two months since Hoda Kotb announced her departure from TODAY, viewers can now look forward to a familiar face stepping into the co-anchor role. Craig Melvin, who has been part of NBC News for almost 14 years, will join Savannah Guthrie as co-anchor during the 7 and 8 a.m. hours, starting Monday, January 13, just after Hoda wraps up her final show on January 10.

Expressing his excitement, Craig remarked on November 14, “I am beyond excited and grateful. This is the latest in a long line of blessings.” Savannah echoed the sentiment, sharing that the announcement was met with applause from the staff, calling it “one of the most popular decisions NBC News has ever made.”

Throughout his time at TODAY, Craig has taken on various roles, including weekend co-anchor and co-host of the show’s third hour, where he will continue to work alongside Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer, and Sheinelle Jones. His commitment to journalism and charismatic presence have endeared him to viewers and colleagues alike.

Libby Leist, senior vice president of TODAY, praised Craig’s contributions, noting his ability to handle breaking news, presidential interviews, and major sports events with both talent and charm. Celebrating the occasion, the TODAY team wished him well, with Hoda affirming, “You are that kind of good… you’re the right person for it.”

As changes arise following Hoda’s exit, the fourth hour of TODAY will transition to TODAY with Jenna & Friends, where Jenna Bush Hager will be joined by various guest co-hosts until a permanent replacement is named. The TODAY team plans to honor Hoda during her final appearances in January.

Reflecting on her decision to move on, Hoda shared on September 26, shortly after her 60th birthday, that it was time for a new chapter in her life. She emphasized that this shift felt like the perfect moment to embrace new opportunities.

Craig has publicly celebrated Hoda’s authenticity, recognizing her genuine spirit both on and off-camera, stating, “You’ve been the heart of this show for a long time, and there’s no replacing that.”

As Craig Melvin steps into this significant role, the transition promises to bring exciting developments to the TODAY show, emphasizing the show’s continuous evolution and commitment to engaging its audience. With both Craig’s experience and Hoda’s cherished legacy, the future of the program looks promising.

Overall, this transition period serves not only as an opportunity for Craig but also reaffirms NBC’s dedication to delivering quality news and entertainment to its viewers.
