Cousins Takes Responsibility as Falcons Face Three-Game Skid

ATLANTA – After a disappointing 17-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins took full responsibility for his performance, which he described as one of the worst in his 13-year NFL career. During the game, Cousins threw four interceptions, marking his highest total in a single game since 2014, and tied a career record.

Cousins’ struggles were highlighted by a 61-yard pick-six thrown to Chargers cornerback Tarheeb Still and another interception in the end zone by Marcus Maye, which stalled a promising drive in the fourth quarter. In fact, three of the Falcons’ final drives ended with a Cousins interception.

Following the game, Cousins expressed his disappointment, saying, “I look to myself and say, ‘I’ve got to play better.’” He noted that while the defense played well and special teams made significant contributions, he acknowledges the need to improve his performance.

This defeat marks the Falcons’ third consecutive loss, leaving them with a 6-6 record and still in contention for first place in the NFC South. Cousins has now gone three games without throwing a touchdown, a first since he became a full-time starter in 2015.

Despite the offensive struggles, the Falcons’ defense showed signs of improvement, recording a season-high five sacks and preventing any offensive touchdowns from the Chargers. However, their efforts were overshadowed by the offense’s inability to capitalize on opportunities.

Head coach Raheem Morris reaffirmed his support for Cousins, indicating there are no plans to switch to rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr., despite the team’s challenges. “Kirk was brought here to put us in a playoff position,” Morris stated, emphasizing that the team still has a path to success ahead. He remains confident that Cousins will rebound in their upcoming game against the Minnesota Vikings, the quarterback’s former team.

Wide receiver Drake London also defended Cousins, highlighting that poor games can happen to any player at the professional level. He stressed the importance of the entire team executing their roles well, asserting that the burden of a loss cannot be solely placed on the quarterback.

Cousins acknowledged his responsibility and stated he is healthy, adding that he believes it’s essential to earn his position on the team each day. “You just have to go earn it,” he remarked, underscoring his commitment to improving his play moving forward.

Looking ahead, there remains a sense of hope for the Falcons as they aim to turn their season around, relying on strong performances from both Kirk Cousins and the whole team. With their playoff aspirations still in sight, fans can anticipate a determined effort in the coming weeks.

In summary, while the Falcons faced setbacks, the support for Cousins from both the coaching staff and teammates suggests a collective optimism for growth and improvement as they proceed with their season.
