A psychiatric evaluation report for Charles Laxton Sundar, who faces charges for allegedly murdering and dismembering his 86-year-old grandfather last year, remains pending. During a court hearing at the High Court in Suva, his lawyer, Andala Dean, informed Justice Usaia Ratuvili that there was no written court order for Mr. Sundar to be evaluated at the St Giles Hospital.
The 25-year-old is accused of slitting the throat of Emori Rokovuki and using knives to dismember the body in Lutu, Wainibuka, on July 12, 2025. In response to the situation, Justice Ratuvili has mandated that Mr. Sundar be brought to St Giles Hospital for the necessary psychiatric assessment, after which he will be remanded in custody.
The court has been awaiting a report since November 2025 to establish Mr. Sundar’s mental fitness to enter a plea. Consequently, he remains in custody, with the case adjourned until March 10 for further review. This ongoing legal process highlights the complexities involved in cases concerning mental health assessments and their implications for the judicial system.
