SpaceX is preparing for the launch of the SXM-10 satellite on behalf of SiriusXM, scheduled to occur from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The launch window opens on Friday, June 6, at 11:19 p.m. and extends until 3:48 a.m. on June 7. Weather conditions during the launch period include a 60% chance of precipitation, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. However, partly cloudy skies are anticipated outside of those hours, with temperatures dropping to around 73 degrees.
SiriusXM reported impressive figures in the first quarter of the year, boasting approximately 33 million subscribers and generating $1.6 billion in revenue. Their podcast sector is thriving, with nearly 1 billion downloads and 70 million monthly listeners, highlighting the company’s continuous growth and expansion in digital audio.
The SXM-10 satellite is part of a significant partnership that spans over two decades between SpaceX and SiriusXM, fulfilling a crucial role in the evolution of SiriusXM’s satellite radio network. Maxar Space Systems, the satellite’s manufacturer, indicated that this launch is a continuation of their legacy, following earlier satellite launches that began back in 2000. The SXM-10, along with its forthcoming companions SXM-11 and SXM-12, are classified as third-generation spacecraft.
In addition to this launch, SpaceX has future missions planned, including a Falcon 9 rocket scheduled to take a crew of commercial astronauts to the International Space Station on June 10. This mission will be commanded by former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, accompanied by astronauts from India, Poland, and Hungary, showcasing SpaceX’s commitment to expanding access to space for international partners.
With the arrival of new technology and partnerships, the upcoming launch symbolizes a bright future for satellite communications and the rapid advancements within the space industry.
