Journalists in Fiji are gearing up for the prestigious Fiji Achievement in Media Excellence (FAME) Awards 2025, which will be held on December 6, 2025, at the Novotel Lami Convention & Entertainment Centre. This year’s awards honor the resilience of journalists and celebrate media freedom, paying tribute to those dedicated to sharing important stories that resonate with the nation.
With a total of 121 entries submitted from various media outlets—spanning print, radio, television, and digital platforms—journalists are competing across 25 categories showcasing excellence and creativity in journalism. Chairman of the FAME Awards, Shane Hussein, expressed pride in the number and quality of applications, indicating a promising rise in professional standards within Fiji’s media sector.
“The strong turnout reflects the growing standard of professionalism within Fiji’s media,” Hussein noted. Judges are currently evaluating the submissions, with finalists expected to be announced shortly. All selected nominees will receive complimentary invitations to the awards night, along with digital finalist badges to recognize their achievements.
Significant categories in contention include Best Feature Article, Best Commentary or Analysis, Best Coverage of iTaukei Affairs, Best Sports Journalism, Scoop of the Year, and Young Journalist of the Year, among others. From the pool of submissions, winners for individual categories such as Radio Journalist of the Year and Print Journalist of the Year will be highlighted, culminating in the selection of the ultimate accolade, the Journalist of the Year.
Moreover, the 2025 FAME Awards will revive the Fiji Media Hall of Fame, honoring five legends in the media industry for their lifetime contributions.
