The countdown to the New Year is almost here, with Times Square’s iconic ball drop set to take place in less than 24 hours. Ryan Seacrest returns as the host of ABC’s renowned New Year Special, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2025.” This year marks the 20th anniversary of Seacrest hosting this beloved show.
The preparations for the celebration are in full swing. Rapper Pitbull recently unveiled the New Year’s Eve Ball for 2025, with the installation of its final glass tiles completed just days prior. The ball, a geodesic sphere that symbolizes “unity and enduring love,” stands at 12 feet in diameter and weighs nearly 12,000 pounds. It features 2,688 vibrant tiles made by Gillinder Glass, capable of displaying over 16 million colors and billions of dazzling patterns that create a magnificent kaleidoscope effect.
The tradition of the Times Square ball drop dates back to 1907, and although celebrations in Times Square initially began in 1904, the event has since become a universal symbol of ringing in the New Year.
For this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration, Seacrest will be joined by co-host Rita Ora and a star-studded lineup of performers, including Carrie Underwood, the Jonas Brothers, Alanis Morissette, and many more. The show airs live on ABC on December 31 at 8 p.m. EST and will be available for streaming on Hulu the following day.
The festivities will commence around 6 p.m. ET, with the ball starting its descent at 11:59 p.m. ET, signaling the arrival of the New Year. Underwood will perform a medley of her biggest hits right before the midnight moment, followed by singer Mickey Guyton, who will honor the occasion with a rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine.”
