The iconic New Year’s Eve ball in Times Square is set to make its descent in just under 24 hours, heralding the start of 2025. Ryan Seacrest will be at the helm once again, hosting ABC’s annual celebration, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2025.”
Excitement is building as preparations ramped up with a test run of the ball, finalized by rapper Pitbull, who helped introduce this year’s spectacular ball adorned with fresh glass tiles. This year’s ball is a striking geodesic sphere, standing at 12 feet in diameter and weighing an impressive 11,875 pounds.
Symbolizing “unity and enduring love,” the ball features 2,688 tiles made by Gillinder Glass, a local New York manufacturer. It boasts the ability to display over 16 million colors and an array of patterns, creating a dazzling kaleidoscopic effect that captivates viewers.
The tradition of the Times Square ball drop dates back to 1907, becoming a global symbol of New Year celebrations and serving as a beacon of hope for people worldwide.
For those wanting to join the festivities from home, the special will air live on December 31 at 8 p.m. EST. This year marks Seacrest’s 20th anniversary as host and will include co-host Rita Ora alongside performances from stars such as Carrie Underwood, the Jonas Brothers, Alanis Morissette, and many more.
The ball drop event will begin just before 6 p.m. ET, with the historic descent commencing at 11:59 p.m. ET, marking the transition to the New Year.
In addition to the televised event, viewers can also access a live webcast through the Times Square official website, offering a commercial-free experience that includes backstage insights and interviews.
As we prepare for this time-honored celebration, the hope for a fresh start and new beginnings resonates with many, showcasing the enduring spirit of unity and joy that the New Year brings.
