The Denver Nuggets are set to sign point guard Tyus Jones, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. This move comes after a season marked by significant transitions for the 29-year-old player, who began the year with the Orlando Magic, was subsequently traded to the Charlotte Hornets, and then repackaged in a deal to the Dallas Mavericks. Recently, Jones was waived to allow the Mavericks to make room for two-way guard Ryan Nembhard.
Throughout his 11 seasons in the NBA, Jones has demonstrated his value, averaging 7.3 points and 4.3 assists per game. Renowned for his playmaking abilities and strong assist-to-turnover ratio, he has drawn comparisons to former Nuggets point guard Monte Morris.
Bringing Jones into the lineup could provide a much-needed boost for the Nuggets, particularly behind All-Star Jamal Murray. Currently, the Nuggets rank among the lowest in the league for bench assists, averaging only 6.5 per game.
Jones began his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, selected in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft, and spent four seasons there before continuing his journey with the Memphis Grizzlies. His experience with teams, including the Wizards and Suns, has helped him hone his skills, making him a valuable addition to the Nuggets’ roster.
This signing could invigorate the Nuggets’ offensive strategy and provide additional support as they work towards their goals in the ongoing season.
