The Seattle Seahawks recently made headlines by acquiring wide receiver and return specialist Rashid Shaheed from the New Orleans Saints before the 2025 trade deadline. However, predictions suggest that Shaheed may not remain with the Seahawks for the 2026 season, as ESPN’s Aaron Schatz anticipates that he will sign with the Cleveland Browns during the upcoming NFL free agency.

Schatz highlighted the significance of improving the Browns’ special teams, which he ranked low in 2025, placing them 32nd for punt return value and 28th for kick return value. He noted that while speed is essential for a returner, effective blocking is crucial for maximizing a player’s potential. The addition of Shaheed could greatly enhance Cleveland’s special teams unit. He pointed out that in 2025, the wide receiver had seven games, including playoffs, where he exceeded 50 receiving yards, far surpassing any Browns receiver’s performance that season when none reached even 687 yards.

During his time with the Seahawks, Shaheed made an impact, particularly on special teams, where he returned both a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns, contributing to Seattle’s playoff run. In nine regular-season games, he recorded 15 catches for 188 yards.

Shaheed’s NFL journey has seen him recognized as a premier returner, earning Pro Bowl nominations and a first-team All-Pro selection in 2023. His standout performances in the 2025 season included averages of 16.2 yards per punt return and 29.9 yards per kickoff return, bolstering his reputation as a dynamic special teams player. Remarkably, he has now returned a punt for a touchdown in three consecutive seasons.

Looking ahead to his potential free agency, Shaheed’s value is underscored by his versatile skill set. He may not have showcased his receiving capabilities extensively with the Seahawks, but during his time with the Saints, he proved to be a reliable threat with over 700 receiving yards in 2023 and solid performance in 2024.

If the Browns aim to enhance their receiving corps and special teams, targeting Shaheed could be advantageous, allowing him the chance to utilize his skills further within a new offensive scheme. While the Seahawks enter March with a solid cap space situation, they will face tough decisions regarding several key unrestricted free agents, making Shaheed’s future uncertain as they consider their priorities, especially regarding their secondary and running back Kenneth Walker.

Shaheed is currently ranked as one of the top wide receivers available in free agency, with projections estimating his value could range from $39 million to $42.3 million on a three-year deal. His journey and performance thus far create optimism for both his future and the teams that seek to add his talents in 2026.
